Any one from Accenture share their paternity leave policy. I hear if you are not primary caretaker you only get 2 weeks, is that true and if yes now is that determined?

As a dad, I was able to take 8 weeks as primary caregiver (mothers can take 16 weeks). As a primary caregiver, you're allowed to take 8 weeks paid leave within the first 16 weeks after your child is born. I took 2 weeks PTO when my kid was born, then I went back to work for 6 weeks while my wife stayed home. She went back to work and I was able to stay home and claim primary caregiver for weeks 9-16.

I've heard it's very easy to just say you're the primary and haven't heard anyone have issues getting the 8 weeks

Yes, in my experience, it was just the honor system... They didn't do any type of formal verification that I was primary caregiver. The only way I would see them finding out is if your spouse also works for Accenture. They wouldn't let you both claim primary caregiver.

What is this primary/secondary? Shouldn’t it be an equal effort and both are primary?

like

Exactly. The previous primary/secondary caregiver designation was a bit old fashioned and many consultants were unable to enjoy that quality bonding time with their babies. It’s fantastic that they scrapped it

Damn Accenture needs to get with the modern time here....you automatically get many more weeks off as the mother?

Typically the medical leave/short term disability is 6-8 weeks depending on type of delivery and that is what A2 is calling "maternity." That is for the birth mother to recover physically. Adoption typically gives caregivers the paid parental leave but not medical/short-term disability since the person did not give birth.

It’s 16 weeks paid parental leave at ACN regardless if you are/aren’t the primary career. ACN updated the policy not long ago. I’m currently on parental leave. ✌️

A2 I wonder if it differs by region I am in APAC. I would be happy to send the policy (drop a burner). Also recommend checking out “parenting in the new” on mylearning with contains all the info you will need, even before baby arrives. There are info session you can sign up to and the full deck should be on there too.

If you have a kid (as a dad or mom) you're the primary caregiver. Secondary only comes into play if you're getting a foster kid or something like that

Arrow Icon

Interesting. I thought primary caregiver meant you were a full time caregiver. Eg if my partner was on leave and I’m still at work that made me the secondary caregiver

like
Arrow Icon

Isn’t that too less, how can you be primary?

Arrow Icon

I have an offer and planning to join strategy practice. We also have plan to have our second kid, this is very important for me as compared to Deloitte there is a 16 week parental leave irrespective of primary or secondary. If someone from Accenture can share the exact new policy, it will be quite helpful

Closing out as have connected with OP directly. Turns out the leave policy may differ by region. Good luck OP with the decision! 👍
