Be good at doc reviews and redactions.
Mentor
Doc review and redactions will not give you visibility. Expressly tell the partner you are ready for more substantive work and want to prove yourself.
Enjoy it while you can. I’d kill to just redact things and do doc review now. The substantive work will come.
I know it doesn’t feel important but it is. And mid levels and seniors still do plenty of doc review. Raise your hand for shit and figure out who the good “teaching” associates and partners are. They’re looking for more substantive learning opportunities for juniors. Work for them. Also, pro bono.
Coach
Ditto everything here. Being responsive and efficient and excellent at your document projects will lead to more stuff. Conversely, when assocs make lazy doc review calls, don’t finish batches as fast as peers, etc., we notice, and we pick the stronger performers when we’re assigning the better shit
you are a junior. why would they trust you with a client that the firm is billing millions? or trust you to not mess up the details of a critical deal
