Left 2 months ago. Hardest decision ever. The people/culture can't be beat. The work life balance is great. It's clear you're really valued, and there's a lot of opportunities to advance.
The only negatives are the less competitive pay (though they are aware and are raising their pay) and the lack of clear forward momentum. It's often that they say X is coming, and it truly is on the horizon, it just stays there for longer than they expect. They're working towards getting on top of that, but I anticipate it will always be an issue somewhat due to their very diverse business umbrella.
F5 is a great company for employees who value great people and culture. Sure, we are not paid the highest(company is fixing this) and honestly our products are not the sexy new shit on the block but management seems to care and value us. WLB is superb and the quarterly 4 day weekends are an icing on the cake. I love working here primarily for the people.
4 years in and I love working here. Generous benefits (4 day company weekends once a quarter just to start) and the people are genuinely nice. You're always going to have stressful days and people who aren't having a good day and taking it out by being rude , but overall, everyone is great and it's truly a "human first" company. They took care of everyone during COVID and that meant a lot to all of us.

Would you join if it meant joining the BIG-IP hardware team? Not exactly a growing segment from what I understand
It's very much up to the individual. On our team we have people who go in the office every day and those who haven't been to the office since March 2020 and don't plan to. I go in every 6 weeks or so. I would say the Seattle tower is about 20-30% at capacity, which is a shame because it is by far the most beautiful office I have ever worked at.
Have a couple friends who work there. From what they say it’s a great working environment and WLB.
Some benefits include quarterly company wide 3 day weekend, emphasis on team events and great coworkers. Pay is lower which is a reasonable trade off. But a lot of people boomerang since it’s hard to beat the company culture at other places
Here is a summary of my experience working for F5 as a consultant:
Pro: The People
My client (direct manager) was Grade A. We had a great relationship and and it always felt like we had the same goals in mind. Additionally, I really appreciated the level of transparency and availability of senior management. They were always involved and interested in the work that my team was executing.
Con: lack of clarity/vision
Where I think they could improve is harnessing the volatility that comes with rapid expansion and acquisition. There is A LOT going on at F5 right now and understably, that can create a hectic work environment for employees. Often times it feels like there is a change in vision/direction. It is very critical that you are able to adjust and work in some ambiguity.
