Napa wine train is not worth it if you know your wines. If you are a casual drinker and don’t care what you are poured, then I’m sure it’s a blast because, hey, it’s a 🚂 and it’s beautiful countryside!
I think the price is right for the experience of a leisurely sunset dinner through such a gorgeous location. The price is not right for the wines you are served. So I guess it comes down to whether you are going to Napa more for the experience or for the wine. (No judgment from me either way, except that those experience people make it more expensive for me to enjoy the wines I want to 🤣)
Where do you want to go? Assume you’re referring to California? Napa and Sonoma are very different but both have lots to offer. Napa is more “grand” and you’ll see more party busses and crowds. Sonoma tends to be quieter and more personal. You’ll see the opposite in each but those are broad generalizations based on my experience. Happy to help with some tips on either though I can’t speak to the wine train.
Healdsburg. Go to Ridge. You can taste the Cab that won the Judgement in Paris in 2016.

Skip the wine train and make your own plans. The wine train hits some good and some mediocre places. What wines do you like I can probably make some recommendations.
One big plus about the wine train is not intoxicated driving. The police in CA take that seriously. If you can afford it, I strongly recommend booking a private car service for the day. They also can help tailor a list of wineries for you.
Yo! Bay Area person here! I’ve done the wine train a few times with family. If you just want to taste wines, I would suggest just making an itinerary and hiring a driver for the day. If you want an extra experience of the train, beautiful scenery and I think there is lunch or a snack served? I always enjoy it when I go, and if you don’t want to worry about any planning and just have a fun tourist experience it’s good for that. I’m not sure if tastings are included but they can be very pricey in Napa. Don’t be afraid to split tasting with a significant other or friend so you can go to more places or have a glass of your favorite. PM me or just ask here if you want any recommendations or specific info about where your going.
Take a hot air balloon ride. The scenery is insane.
I just did Sonoma /Napa — we stayed in Sonoma but did a driver one day through Napa. Happy to answer any questions. Napa and Sonoma are different vibes, and I know we chose wisely for my style.
