@M1: Thank you for your necessary and insightful contribution to the conversation; the professional characteristics that took you to Manager are evident in full force tonight. Now go forth, thousands of misspelled words await your correction! 😉
Epic is sweeping the electronic medical records market. EMR Is going to be federally regulated soon and consulting is taking some major hits. You need an epic certification to do epic work. Take it.
Cont. epic is a health care record systems
Most people go the opposite route... do you already have Epic (or competitor) project experience? It's a very interesting culture but due to the fact that they grew so ridiculously fast it's very hit or miss and their turnover is worse than consulting. I'm actually surprised to hear them doing experienced hire recruiting, their modus operandi has been to take bright young impressionable college grads, entice them with stories of glory, and burn them out until they realize the grass is greener elsewhere (sound familiar?). Anyway, I ragequit after 8 months but my brother worked there for 3 years happily so I'm happy to answer more questions
Yeah I got the impression that it was very similar to consulting. Do you have an insight into what duties you typically have to perform? Also how cold is Madison during the winter?
*hear of
In Madison, Wisconsin....very esoteric company
Not viewed well unless EHR is your story
I was in a different role (more prod support, part of my reason for leaving) but having friends that worked in that role there and having worked with them in my first couple projects at D, the Epic PMs (or IS as they also go by) were more product SMEs on the project with D taking more of a PMO and functional on-the-ground role (could vary if no other consultants on the project). They travel, but not always weekly. I was fairly disengaged, though (I didn't leave Epic because I wanted to do more Epic!), as well as in more junior roles so that's just what I remember -- seems like a lifetime since I switched practices.
As for winter, I've spent 29 years in Chicago (and 8 months in Madison) so I can't say much about the winters since I'm used to them -- the year I was there Chicago had Snowpocalypse so while Madison also got hit it wasn't nearly as bad #northmen
