Anybody here old enough to have gone through the colonoscopy process? Any advice for getting through the prep stage?

Wear quick access clothes during prep...I stayed in a robe. Also, that comfy, squishy sofa is not your friend. Good luck.

Chug the prep mix fast. Get plenty of apple juice, ginger ale/sprite, chicken stock and yellow or green jello and Gatorade (nothing red or orange as that will mess up the results).

Since your calorie intake is going to be much lower, plan to chill in bed or on the couch. Whichever one is closer to your bathroom. And watch a lot of episodic TV so you don’t lose track of plot lines every time you have to get up and go.

Also switch to Prep-H wipes instead of toilet paper. Protects against that raw feeling from wiping too much.

And wear loose fitting sweatpants. They go on and off a lot easier for the multiple trips to the bathroom.

Plan a really great meal after your exam. It will give you something to look forward to.

Always keep in mind the benefits of a colonoscopy:

• You’re proactively looking after your health and doctors have the ability to snip polyps and nip pre-cancerous growths in the bud.

• You get a day off of work. Always a good thing.

• Anesthesia is fun if you like getting high.

• You will lose a pound or two from the fast during prep.

My husband has them a lot and loves hard candies to suck on, but no red or orange!

Prep is easy. If you went to college and ever chugged a beer. Ever. You have the skills to blow that colon clean. After it’s done you feel great. Groggy but great.

Pro tip. Sleep close to bathroom. Door open. Seat ready. Do not delay. Prepare. The more you know.

Best advice for drinking the prep: use a straw and put it towards the back of your mouth. You bypass a lot of tastebuds that way. Good luck!👍

Yes. Don’t sweat it. It’s not fun but not hard. Do the prep. It’s a pain in the...you know. When you go in, they sedate you. You feel nothing. Groggy when you wake up. Zero pain. You got this.

Prep is easy. Just be comfortable and be close to the bathroom. Also, don't watch TV. You'll be hungry from fasting and the food commercials will terrorize you. Lastly, schedule your procedure first thing in the morning so you can get it over with and have a meal.

Yeah. Drink twice what they give ya to clean ya out. Lol. Seriously though.

I wish i had known!

What’s the recommended age to start this fun so I don’t miss out? Joking aside, is it at 50?

like

@Director1 you can totally do it. The worst part was starving myself for a day. That and the toxic drink/clear out phase. I feel proud of myself today for doing a grown up thing.

like

Also, the prep is brutal after the second toxic drink. How can you guys say it's easy? Most of my efforts were breathing in/out: "Do not barf!!!" Thank you for the support though.

They found 10 polyps! So glad I went. The after-talk was like two minutes and no info. Guess I have to wait for biopsy results. Also the doc said "There was still stool..." TMI but mentioned it so those of you with lazy digestion know you maybe need to fast for more than one day. Next time (in three years) I will do better. 🤞🏼

Fingers crossed OP. How bad is the anesthesia? I don't know why but I'm more afraid of that than the actual procedure

It’s great. I only wish the tiny bit of time you’re awake before you’re knocked out was longer so you could enjoy it more. It’s only a few seconds but your body is in bliss.

For anyone that reviews this thread - use a straw while holding your nose to chug the drink. And (for me) the sleep after the procedure, when I arrived at home was amazing. Best. Sleep. Ever.

Yes, I have had 3 (started early because I'm high risk). You take a nice nap and it's done. Don't sweat it and good luck!

Depends on your gag reflex. My mother and wife had a hard time with the prep drink. I didn’t enjoy it by any means but it wasn’t horrible. I’m due for one so hopefully the formula hasn’t gotten worse.

Tired of my pharmacy. Every single month I have to call the pharmacy for my Adderall, they say they don’t have any prescriptions for me, they ask for additional information, they magically find it, and then I have to wait like 1 to 8 hours to have it filled. It’s a pointless phone call. Why do I have to repeat these shenanigans every month?! Is it just Rite Aid? Is CVS any better? So irritating.

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️

ADHD medication with high Blood Pressure?

I found ADHD meds helpful when I worked in consulting in my 20s. I stopped the meds when I went back to school. Also have had High BP since late 20s. 15 years away, I am back in consulting and loving it, however my difficulties juggling so many projects/tasks is holding me back. I know I would benifit from some ADHD medication but my Dr won’t prescribe any with my history of BP (controlled with BP meds). Anyone else gone through this? Any tips?

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Most of our friends have kids who are able to mask up or are vaccinated and it’s getting quite isolating. Especially now mask mandates are being lifted feeling like we can’t go anywhere without risking our kid.

Has anyone gotten the thermiEye treatment or any other non invasive treatment to reduce undereye lines and/or puffiness? Thanks!

Reorgs are just a part of the corporate world. If you haven’t been a part of one in your career yet, then you most likely haven’t been in the corporate workforce for very long. If you have been a part of a reorg, however, how do you personally approach it? There are many factors at play, but in general do you try to establish relationships with the individuals you know will be key contributors and/or decision makers going forward? Or do you lay low and let what ever happens be/hope for the best?
