It is a bunch of people barely out of high school assisting an unelected official through government programs. They are constantly mischaracterizing their findings. They make outlandish claims that are easily rebutted. They misstated an $8 million contract as an $8 billion contract.
If these people were audit associates at my firm, they would be the first ones riffed.
lol yea they are so advanced in their thinking they confuse 8 billion with 8 million, fire key personnel only to rehire them a few days later, report out misinformation and then try to walk it back. So smart…
These are the facts idk what delusional world your living in
Many friends in forest service, NIH, IRS of course have been fired. Pearl clutching is a bit insensitive to describe actual people losing their jobs and livelihoods. It’s not like they were raking in the big bucks to start.
If the focus was geared toward qualified people scrutinizing private contracts and conflicts of interest I’d be more supportive (looking at you Tesla contracts).
So you think the inspector generals are doing a good job then? Ok then.
You are ok with transgender musicals in Ireland? Ok then.
Fired irs agent here.
IRS in average typically brings in $6 for every dollar spent.
I was actually in the middle of auditing firms that I was getting ready to make an adjustment of about $1.5 million total across three different companies. That would’ve been about $450,000 due to some adjustments being a tax credit abuse. Easily would’ve made my salary many times over as I would’ve worked on more than these cases.
This isn’t just my situation; this is typically the norm for my colleagues who usually have big four or other comprehensive background.
These cuts clearly isn’t to cut cost as cutting the irs directly contradicts their plans.
But ya’ll discuss how much ever you need on if what is happening makes sense.
At the least, I thought it should be pretty self-evident in the “accounting” section of the app, but seeing these leave me a bit diasppointed…
It was pretty rewarding for a little while that my tax knowledge was contributing to holding questionable tax payers and businesses accountable, but due to the current administration, I’ll go back to making rich people more money. Yay :)
They just cut across everyone in their probationary period (people without a year in their position yet) but good guess though, would’ve been happier if it was performance based.

Government waste does not mean you just stop all spending at one time. It definitely needs to be reduced but this is not the way.
Oh please. Americans are sicker than ever before under the current guidance and were better off before all the prescriptions for chronic medical issues, obesity levels, and outrageous vaccine schedule. Public health is easiest to cut without losing a thing
As financial professionals, we should be aware that audits require competence, professionalism, rigor, and process. These are all lacking in DOGE.
Here we see the entropic end state of anti-intellectualism, anti-expertise, etc.
I would be fine with it if I had any confidence that the people digging into everything had any idea what they were doing. The majority of their findings so far, particularly around SS, don’t inspire confidence. There is obviously a lot of waste that can be cut but not sure the right people are doing it
They fired the nuclear weapons officials and are now begging them to come back.
Super professional, very put together.
It’s okay we just don’t understand how this is actually a masterful gambit and part of the 8D chess game
I think the problem is one set of unaccountable people being held accountable by another set of unaccountable people - and for headlines, not real progress. DOGE are not auditors, and many of the people running the program are inexperienced and unqualified. They’re trying to run computer data analytic models to find anomalies, which is a ok idea as long as it follows a process. Anomalies do not equal fraud, or even findings. Sometimes they are… often there is a reason and an explanation.
Instead of being methodical and conservative, DOGE is making decisions and announcements before it asks questions. And some of their mistakes are inexcusably stupid. Firing the people in charge of our nuclear arsenal? That is unforgivable incompetence… so much so that it gives “foreign spy”/“treason” vibes. I was delayed for hours on a flight earlier this week because there were not enough air traffic controllers. That is incompetent!
A real audit would take months, if not years. Anomalies would be followed up on, documented, recommendations for improvements and cuts made. It should be methodical and done well enough that, if fraud is found, charges can be pressed. Real audits and progress take time and aren’t good television.
I love the idea of a well done, meticulous, thoughtful audit. I don’t want to see any more tweets with bad math.
USAID has an OIG that contracts with a public accounting firm to perform a financial statement audit.
You can download it from this page on the USAID OIG website: https://oig.usaid.gov/node/7278
And before we go down the “audit the fed” bit, which is where this discussion is headed, you can find the audited financial statements of the Federal Reserve System and all Federal Reserve Banks here: https://www.federalreserve.gov/aboutthefed/audited-annual-financial-statements.htm
USAID is audited by a local DC firm and the fed is audited by KPMG. Yes, I know I brought up the fed but as it’s the standard “unaudited/unaccountable” entity that people always bring up, thought it worth showing its audit opinion.
For at least a couple decades federal employment has been considered a job for life. The reality everyone outside of that bubble faces is hitting hard.
a pension is not waste and fraud just because you no longer receive that as a benefit for being a worker because it was attacked by the corporatists.
Wait until OP is laid off and clutching his pearls.
lol…just like the elitist bleeding heart progressives in the Bay Area of California when people proposed affordable housing projects in Walnut Creek…NIMBY!
One of the problems with this whole scenario is that they are cutting funding that has already been appropriated by Congress. And since that is the House's primary function, why should they bother passing spending/budget bills if Elon and his boys are just going to take a flame thrower to it all? The checks and balances that our founding fathers deliberately set up are being muddied more than ever right now. It is not good.
I’m extremely optimistic with the move made by the current administration to start auditing the executive branch. Do I agree with how the auditing is happening? Not 100%. Do I think the final results will be worthwhile? I believe so. Will these results happen in 3 months? Obviously no. The government should be help accountable. I hope it creates a precedence for future administrations. Let’s start being more transparent with our money, where it’s going, how it’s being spent and whether these organizations are actually necessary for the American interests in and outside of our country.
I see your point about government accountability, but let’s be real. if anything needs an audit, it’s DOGE, Musk and Trump. Those 3 have more wild swings and unexplained hype than any federal agency. Where’s the transparency on who’s really pulling the strings there? Thousands are losing their jobs. Right now, you're not concerned because their actions doesn't affect you YET, but it will soon whether it's directly or indirectly, we'll all feel it. You can use their narrative and run with it, but this is what they do to deflect. They accuse others of what they , themselves do. Trump is making money right now on the market, isn't that a conflict of interest? How is Elon making millions out of firing people for someone who wants to save the government money?
Imagine us going to the MD/ partner saying "some of what i signed off will be wrong" lol
To be fair, only by a factor of 1,000
Personally DOGE and the Trump Admin makes me proud to be an American again. 🇺🇸
If they can’t state 5 things they did last week in an email, then they aren’t essential
I can't talk much about it but in the IRS they fired people that brought back money to the Govt, more than their salaries. They also let the new hires go that came from the private sector while keeping the career bureaucrats. So Idk, it doesn't sound efficient but what do I know.
The problem is the lack of accountability, or professionals involved. The conflict of interest that this effort is lead by someone who receives significant subsidies and contracts is problematic at best and DOGE has been caught in repeated errors. We already have a Governmental Accountability Office, if they were interested, they would have empowered and staffed the Office for such an effort and made cuts/reprimands based on actual findings. This has been a dog and pony show so far.
The issue is that he’s destroying by decree entities that were created by Congress rather than asking a Congress he more or less controls just to change the law.
It’s not being dramatic to say it’s what dictators do.
If DOGE thinks they know everything, why haven't they lowered the price of a dozen eggs? And don't tell me that it's not in their job description - all the money they are allegedly saving should be applied to the cost of food, like a negative tariff. And if you believe in DOGE, I have a bridge to sell you.
Yes all of those were bad ideas
I mean, there should be a lot more due diligence before they just start axing stuff.
Conceptually, no one really has a problem with DOGE. However, the problems are with methodology (if there is such). The Trump/Musk approach is tantamount to wielding a meat cleaver, as opposed to a skilled tool. It borders on capriciousness. Additionally, there’s more than a notion of Trump/Musk targeting programs and departments they disagree with philosophically and gutting them under the guise of efficiency.
I haven’t lost one second of sleep with any of this slash and burn method. But I’ll keep space for when I see shit go wrong I guess.
