Anyone ever get a job offer at a new company and tell their current boss before accepting/leaving?

I want to attend grad school (public policy) starting Aug 2020. When would be the best time to tell my team? Once I’m accepted? Don’t want to give my 2 weeks to say I’ve known for 5 months

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.
