How do you respond when other educators or staff members negatively refer to children and you know it is based on their color?

I usually ask what it is that made them make that comment in the first place . Then ask if they would feel differently if it were any other student .

Teachers seem receptive to questioning whether they have a deficit mindset. But for teachers to really address their bias seems to require sustained commitment (multiple years) by admin to create space for difficult conversations to occur and facilitate those conversations with norms around listening and being open to discomfort.

And there is a challenging line to toe, there. We get into the realm of teachers (or staff) feeling "attacked" when called out and it becomes grievance time. I wonder if there is a way to approach it through PD that can be effective and all-encompassing.

That's been my approach a few times. Almost like asking students to cite evidence. They normally cant focus on anything other than the original reason they made the comment in the first place. It's sad.

This happens ALL the time in schools where Bkack children are the minority.

The American educational system wasn't designed for us. Remember that.

Hey there ladies,
We have a new family member who’s transitioned over the pandemic. While we are excited to have her join our side of the fence, she asked for advice on work life tips. I recognize that her experience as a woman is shallow over the pandemic and she wasn’t Indoctrinated into female culture. I thought it works be good to open it up and get your tips and tricks on surviving womanhood!
Thank you!

I’m considering a SAM position at a WPP agency. I originally stated that I was looking for 95k, but would like to up it to $105k based on my experience and the competitiveness of the market.

Any tips on how to do this?

Also would love to hear from people who are currently at a WPP agency about their benefit/work life balance and the overall culture.

Thanks in advance!
