Anyone have tips for making the move from corp biglaw to government? Seems like most gov jobs are for litigators

Usajobs is awful. I got my job through networking. There was a need for my expertise and a job was essentially created for me. There are tons of non litigation jobs; what is your field/what do you want to do?

Ah sorry that’s way out of my field so I can’t offer any suggestions. I will say, not all gov jobs are 9-5 despite their reputation. I’m constantly on call and dealing with work on vacation/weekends unfortunately.

Consider what federal agencies routinely do loans or loan guarantees. Those agencies probably have internal contract counsel positions that would really value experience like yours.

Currently in bizops and former consultant, and while the work is fine I’ve realized that bizops feels similar to consulting and in the long term I’m looking for a role that has more ownership and ideally more analytical. Is it the smart move to take a pay cut and clerk for a judge?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. I did not take advantage of the law school extracurriculars and missed out on clerk application deadlines my final year (2020). Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. Mostly want to explore other areas. Other things to consider: planning for babies in the next 3-5 years; maternity leave in current position is basically what's legally required.
