Senior VP here, been in for 10 years.
Flown by. Barely remember the disaster analyst years. Compensation is great but you grow into it. Your job is always at risk.
Biggest thing I learned is that all top performers have some form of anxiety - it creates people who care about the job. If you want to be in this job for the long haul and be successful, learn to deal with it.
I usually work 9.30 - 6.30 in the office. Then generally on emails till 10pm ish.
Holidays become harder to manage as you lead deals rather than support them so be prepared for those to become more attached to emails. The good thing is that if you have a good team around you, it helps you auto pilot execution and begin your own origination.
Job always being at risk, is as they say - be good or get out. No room for coasters or people who aren’t continuously achieving.

SVP as well. Been in it for 10 years as well. Been told I’m up for MD next year, but let’s see how the year shakes…
I unfortunately do remember Analyst/Associate years. They sucked but it gets way better…
I made the jump to a boutique as the big bank life wasn’t for me anymore. Took a pay cut but responsibilities tripled, WLB was way better, and frankly the stress of worrying about RIFs/layoffs/etc. were largely eliminated.
I have 2 little kids (2 under 2) and have a strong policy at work - I eat dinner with my kids and put them to bed every night. Only missed it when I’ve traveled or twice when I’ve been home because of deals and I was PISSED when it happened. After they’re asleep, I’ll jump back online and work.
