Anyone here quit a job without a plan, how did it go?

Depends on your tenable your current situation is. If you're miserable or it's keeping you from looking for another job, then leave now if you can afford it. But I'd avoid leaving without something else to go to because it can change the job-hunting dynamic if you don't find something right away. You might feel more pressure to take a job you don't want, feel less confident in yourself if something doesn't come along right away (You're current job, whether you like it or not does validate your worth by simply paying you), or alter or even abandon your job-seeking plan prematurely if it doesn't produce immediate results.

I have a young friend who graduated early from college and got a great IT job with a multi-national bank that he left after a year because it wasn't challenging enough for him. He was on top of the world. Now he's doing interviews that a year ago he never would have taken because they were not what he would have even considered, but the money is getting tight, and he's had numerous dead-end interviews that have shaken him.

Depends. Do you have a spouse or parents for financial support?

Yes, I have! I've been job hunting for 3 months now but I was lucky enough to have savings, a supportive family, and no financial responsibilities. It has been great to take the time off to think about what I really want in my career and where I see myself in the future

Do you think all these violent and hate filled attacks are because people aren't getting the emotional/mental support they need, whether it's therapy at any age or help they needed but didn't get from a social worker as a child? My coworker is sure this is the case, but I honestly think there's actually something deeper wrong either with how these people are being raised as children, or how the warning signs these people give off are ignored or swept under the rug to save face.

How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.
