Anyone here with more of a forensic accounting or disputes/investigations focus ever considered going to law school to join the client-side? Why or why not?

I've worked in forensics and litigation support for over 20 years. Never ever wanted to be a lawyer. Big law firms pay big bucks but the hours are much worse than Big4, so no real chance of a proper work life balance. Not for me.

like

I have had a couple seniors/manager reset and do it. I think they were very comfortable financially and always intended to take a break from school before going back for law degree. Don’t think either of them built on their forensic experience whatsoever. Total shift.

Why not? Financial barriers to entry. Good on you if you can afford. It’s a major lifestyle reset personally and professionally. You’ll also then be starting at the law firm as a brand new associate about 5-7 years older than everyone else which if you just stayed in forensics you have reset your career so substantially that you’re way behind your partner promotion cycle which you may not be focused on now but it’ll slap you in the face when that becomes important to you. You’ll be billing/working at grunt level for 5-7 years at each career so you’ll have a full 10-15 years as a grunt. Woof.

Most importantly, if your heart is in law, go do it.

funny

Big law workload does not ease up as you move up levels - certainly not in the majority of cases. Also, if it was so easy to get into big law and make the large salaries we are discussing above…more people would do it. Look at the % of people that go to top law schools, land top law internships/jobs. The numbers suggest that if you’re going to law school purely for the pay, it’s statistically unlikely you won’t come out the other side better off. If you want to do it, go for it. You have as good a chance as anyone else, just know what you’re signing up for.

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). It’s a 4 year degree and under this I have my High School equivalent with the years I attended there. The education wasn’t mentioned in the interviews. Continued below.

Hi Team,

I joined Mindtree on 8th Feb and not got project and I was waiting for last 2 and half month. So, i gave interview outside (tech mahindra) and got selected. Almost 30-35% they said they will give and i am negotiating on it.

My main concern was shift and i have some health issues and unable to continue in night shift in Mindtree and tech mahindra its purely EMEA shift and per project team update.

Shall i switch to tech Mahindra?

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We plan on having kids within the next year or two, and it’s highly u likely that she’ll be able to keep her current gig. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Should she get certifications to give her a shot at adtech?Too late?

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

AWS has prestige but is it worth it?
