Anyone in this thread entirely reroute their career paths? Where did you start and shift to? Wondering if it is worth starting over as a first year elsewhere. Love my team and people but not the career I want to have.

I was in retail for 10 years. Realized being a store manager was not for me. Went back to school, earned a bachelors and masters in accounting. I started working in public accounting at the age of 30. Got my cpa license, worked in tax for 7 years, now I’m in a family office.

I felt the same doing tech consulting in an industry I wasn’t passionate about. I was a C up for SC promotion but I snatched up an entry level role at Google as an engineer, which pays M/SM band at my last firm anyway. It’s kinda worth it to restart because you feel less pressure and you’re allowed to make mistakes.

I started out as a civil engineer (roadway design) coming out of undergrad and hated it - the work was mind numbing and I felt trapped sitting in a cubicle all day drawing lines on the computer. Switched to consulting and love the client interactions along with the impact i’m making.

I’m thinking about rerouting mine as we speak lol

I would say I’m smack in the middle of trying to find the re-route. Good question OP - is love to hear people’s input.

I was in tax for four years in big4 and switched to accounting in industry doing regular close and financial reporting. I love it and the hours are so much better. I get to WFH 1-3 times a week before Rona.

Is this a reasonable move? I know IB lifestyle will suck, but I don’t want to find myself in a spot where I dislike what I do in a few years and feel like moving to IB may increase my chances of landing a better gig in the future ( as opposed to sticking to FDD)

Kindly provide a solution.

I have a question for recruiters regarding background checks. If we are working 2 jobs what does that look like in the background check or in the credit check they do? Is it something that shows up on there? Or does only one job show up? I believe our income and company shows up on our credit reports as well since lenders see that when we apply for like a mortgage but if it only shows one employer name does it combine both income numbers on there as well?
