Anyone in this thread entirely reroute their career paths? Where did you start and shift to? Wondering if it is worth starting over as a first year elsewhere. Love my team and people but not the career I want to have.

I was in retail for 10 years. Realized being a store manager was not for me. Went back to school, earned a bachelors and masters in accounting. I started working in public accounting at the age of 30. Got my cpa license, worked in tax for 7 years, now I’m in a family office.

I felt the same doing tech consulting in an industry I wasn’t passionate about. I was a C up for SC promotion but I snatched up an entry level role at Google as an engineer, which pays M/SM band at my last firm anyway. It’s kinda worth it to restart because you feel less pressure and you’re allowed to make mistakes.

what’s tech consulting? what was your job responsibilities?

I started out as a civil engineer (roadway design) coming out of undergrad and hated it - the work was mind numbing and I felt trapped sitting in a cubicle all day drawing lines on the computer. Switched to consulting and love the client interactions along with the impact i’m making.

I’m thinking about rerouting mine as we speak lol

I would say I’m smack in the middle of trying to find the re-route. Good question OP - is love to hear people’s input.

I was in tax for four years in big4 and switched to accounting in industry doing regular close and financial reporting. I love it and the hours are so much better. I get to WFH 1-3 times a week before Rona.

Hello there! I currently work in billing at a medical office. I got my Bachelors in Psychology a few years ago but I couldn’t find a position that seemed like a good option for me that was well paying and fulfilling. I tried working as a tech at an Applied Behavior Analysis clinic but it wasn’t a good fit. I’m hesitant to try case management or social work because I worry I won’t like it but I want to use my degree in Psychology. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I been trying to get into the cloud administrator side of tech for about a year. I have two Azure certifications (Azure fundamental and Azure Administrator) but I haven’t had any luck with entry level positions. Every position is requiring a year or more of experience. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to increase my chances for a position?

Last year I moved internally from a
Paralegal level 11 w/ 14 yrs exp at
$100k base + up to 8% bonus to my
current role as compliance manager
level 9 at $123k base + up to 35%
bonus. I was above cap in my prior
role and now my range is up to $138k
base. I'm being recruited to my old
team as a level 10
Manager with
same base/bonus as now but since it's
a lower level I will cap out within a
year. I always found the legal work
more interesting but limited in career
growth. Not sure what to do.

Hey guys,
I’m currently a quality control analyst in the biopharma/gene therapy field making 72k base in the Houston area. I’ve been working here for 2 years and my company is well established and the job is easy, but I honestly just want higher pay. I see companies (smaller and larger) that potentially can give me that but would it be worth it? I’m having a hard time finding out what opportunities/paths I can take and what amount of $ would be worth moving jobs for. Any insight is appreciated!

I have 10 years of experience. Mostly in Unix, C++ and Visual C++ and MS SQL. I developed interest in cloud computing as like many others and was able to clear AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solution Architect Associate and Professional, AWS Security. Along with these I was able to clear 8 Azure certifications as well: 3 fundamentals, Azure Security, Azure Developer, Azure DevOps and Azure Architect.
Now my main question, can I try to switch on Cloud Architect or some other similar cloud roles?

Recently got my CPA license in August & considering leaving public accounting for Industry. Should I expect my new role to pay for my CPA license renewals/AICPA membership/CPE classes? These things add up &I feel like should be considered when transitioning. Thoughts?

Good morning / Hello! Just a reminder that you don't have to put up with anyone's bullshit today. 🤙 Stick up for yourself and your workload (professionally and with examples of needed.) Don’t just say “yes”, to extra work. Decline that meeting that someone sends today for 5pm. Calibrate people’s expectations. It’s okay to not turn your camera on. And be sure to take a minimum of 30min and get outside if you can. Handle your biz, and make it a great Friday. 💯 💻📲📊📧
