Anyone make the switch to a practice group-specific knowledge management role in a law firm or have thoughts on transitioning from corporate attorney to KM attorney? Considering switching lanes with the hope of better work/life balance. Seems like the fire drills would decrease with a focus on longer term projects for the practice group and resource/database management.

I received an offer from IBM Bangalore. However I saw openings at my preferred location Kochi only after the interviews. I called the HR after getting their point of contact mail and I asked if it's possible to switch. They said I'm already tagged to a project and that they'll check from their end if it can be done.

I believe that I am being blocked from my transfer even though my manager approves it on paper. Is there any way I can find this out. Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm. However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?
