Anyone think most in house exit options are pretty shite? It's cute how many biglaw associates think they're going to slot into the head of some legal department at a F100 company or hedge fund or something after putting in 5 years in biglaw lol

yes, it’s extremely competitive as well. didn’t go to a t14 and am not in privacy, tech trans, etc. so quite frankly not sure who will hire me even with big law on resume

like

Fwiw I’ve found many in-house jobs care less about T14 backgrounds and more about the Biglaw experience (and in-house experience once you get it)!

like

Who thinks they’re going straight to head of legal? Large companies have large legal teams. Unless you’re a partner lateraling in as GC, you make the move then climb the ranks.

I wouldn’t trust any company that is willing to hire a mid-level with no in-house experience as their head of legal

Hi All,

Was just told to "grow our ESG/CSR" practice at a regional consulting firm, due to my recent grad certification in sustainable biz strategy. Wondering where I should focus us as a services industry for big impact: we have a large product innovation, digital engineering area, and know in the past we've had a lot of lip service to clients and only recorded ESG for their compliance.

Hoping to make a big difference and include CSR/Sust audits and projects beyond for our clients! Any tips?

To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Like is there a perception of us being a step down or ancillary to the big leagues of NYC or not? There’s generally a perception here that L&W and K&E are the only US firms where London can even begin to compete with stateside in terms of generating l work organically but would be interesting to know what you all think? Be brutally honest.

Fellow Big Law colleagues, need help on how to hansle a situation (that shouldn’t even be happening imo).
I used to work for Partner A in project financing and made the internal switch to work in Investment Funds team.
One case with Partner A remained, and though I stayed on, it was mostly to advise in Investment Funds, as he had been looping in another associate from his team.
This week I had to send an e-mail about InvF, and he complained to me that he hadn’t seen the draft…how do I respond?

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I recently moved from litigation to transactional and am struggling to reach billable targets. In litigation it was no problem hitting 1800+ hours but don’t see how I’m going to come anywhere close to that in a transactional role.

I’m mostly sitting around all day waiting for work that doesn’t take long to complete (though at my desk for 10-12 hours/day). Is this normal? Suggestions on how to keep busy other than asking for work and having good work product?
