Umm no, life is good in big Pharma
Pay lower in Big Pharma than other industries? Show me the data. You can’t compare industry sectors to professional services (e.g., investment banking, consulting, P.E., VC, etc.).
Being a consultant that’s worked across industry sectors, Pharma is one of the highest paid industry sectors. Only other sectors that compete are Tech (but not as good as 2 years ago), Oil&Gas (which is cyclical and risky), and Financial Services which is pretty notorious for producing assholes.
I just hate how main corporate locations are in New Jersey or Indianapolis. Would love to try living in NYC, Chicago, SF or Miami
You could try Pfizer (downtown NYC), Abbvie/Abbott (Chicago adjacent), or Gilead (SF adjacent)
If you get out, can I get in lol.
I currently work for big pharma, previously worked at academic medical centers. WLB is better in big pharma, pay is better, benefits etc. I can’t imagine going back. No way
Novartis
Definitely not. Came from the defense sector. Much prefer Pharma.
As a fresher it’s better to work in bigger pharma to build network, get skills etc. also, if there is anyone willing to refer me at Big Pharma it will be great! I am seeking job opportunities in Clinical Research
I like working in pharma for the most part. My biggest gripe is that it takes forever for a promotion, esp compared to people I know in smaller biotechs
I just got in, heck no way I'm leaving. Best life ever.
The grass is always greener on the other side. I’m searching for my next job and reading lots of career info and across all industries and all companies, the general sentiment is always it’s better elsewhere ….but the elsewhere is never defined. Any company or industry I dig into ….everyone says their pay, work life balance, opportunities, etc are worse than other companies Find it amusing at this point.
There are always pros and cons but in big pharma there are always big money
I spent 5 years in pharma and then found a way back into consulting. Had a very good broad role in Pharma just the biggest jerk as a boss in a BU facing LOE of its star product.
Took a total comp cut to get out from Senior Director level (base and bonus same but no stock) back into Consulting but do not regret it one bit given made Partner.
I have seen more people fail than succeed come out of Pharma to try and do consulting but those who do well excel I feel.
