I interviewed and got an offer for a mid-senior level position last year, speaking to 7 different attorneys in the process. Everyone had been there a long time and seemed to enjoy the company. Comp was ~230k all in, no stock options. Didn’t end up taking it due to competing offers.
I have heard the WLB is good, but as mentioned above the comp. package is very basic and low compared to the typical tech companies. Base salary was lower, bonus structure was the same, and they lack the equity component that make a lot of tech companies appealing. I passed on a role that a friend ended up taking and it was a good fit for him.
Going a little deeper in the above, while the WLB is good I have also heard the various legal departments are very much cults of personality for their specific heads and can be very siloed, especially between offices.
Pro
I have been on the other side of many contracts negotiations with VZN legal and always thought their attorneys were professional, fair and nice.
+1 same experience
I know their patent people in NJ are very nice and appear to enjoy a pretty decent WLB, not sure about anything else. For example, they’re able to go drive their kids somewhere midday but then log back on.
I was an intern there for during law school. All biglaw refugees, super nice people who seemed to really like their jobs. Looked like a great WLB. The more senior people did a lot of managing conflicts with competing business departments and offering advice, from what I saw it looked like an awesome gig. Would love to return in a few years.
My wife works with several of them and ha only good things to say.
