Applying to Oliver Wyman and BCG as an experienced hire with 1.5 yrs of strategy work at a global company. What will the recruiting process look like? Tips? Advice? Thx in advance!

The recruiting process for bcg will be that they will never contact you and everyone here will tell you to get an mba from a m7

likefunny

I don't think 1.5 years in strategy in international company is going to land you above starting level in any Tier 1/2 consulting firm (maybe Big4?) unless you network very well and absolutely nail the interviews. Hence your process won't be too different. But that's just my 0.02.

Yeah being in a strategy firm for 2 years, the biggest things you learn are structured problem solving, dope deck building (which I really do think is differentiated from decks we’ve seen from our Mc counterparts), and excel basics. The process will be mostly the same as non strategy folks maybe even harder because they expect you to NAIL the interviews. We definitely had higher quant expectations for interviewers from other strat firms

For BCG, likely quite similar to the college recruiting process. First round with two case and fit interviews and final round with three case and fit interviews. You’d likely come in as an associate (the post undergrad role). You could try asking for tenure credit to come in as a more senior associate, but I don’t think you’re too likely to get it (and you’d then have a shorter runway to get promoted to consultant or leave)

For OW, the process will be the same as the undergrad process, ie 6 interviews (Personal fit plus case)

I’m aware I would be starting at a lower level position was just wondering what the recruiting process at these 2 companies looks like for off-cycle hires not coming from undergrad. Looking for more specifics if anyone has gone through this?

1. You apply 2. Get a call back from recruiter 3. First round interviews 4. Final round interviews 5. Offer I was also off cycle experienced hire so most of interviews were just me (i.e. not super day type)

Advice on dealing w/ difficult mgr? Specifically, she pushes team hard to get things to her review. Mgr doesn’t look at for 10-14days, then sends review comments and asks for updates by EOD/tmrw. Also not uncommon for her to interrogate team members about time they have charged, despite detailed time descriptions and hours being reasonable/in budget. Been 8 months working w her. I get anxious b4 mtgs w her. I have been interviewing. Unreasonable to ask counselor to roll off these engagements?

I’ve been feeling really down about my job lately. Last night I randomly applied for a job at EY-P that I thought I perfectly fit the bill for. Within 12 hours I was reached out from a recruiter and was asked to schedule an interview. Even if it doesn’t go much farther It feels like the confidence boost I needed to know there are other options out there for me.

Might be a paranoid mom question - my 16 month old is starting daycare next week. So far, I’ve had virtual interviews/meet and greet sessions with the daycare staff. Today we went in for our in-person orientation and I noticed that my child is the only non-white kid in his class of 8. Not entirely shocking, but in my head (and having seen pictures in their catalog) I was hoping there would be a little more diversity. Should I be worried about my kid feeling left out because he looks different?

I posted before regarding my long “McDreamy” type hair in interviews and whether it could hurt my chances at landing a new job at a firm. Pleased to report it in fact did not hurt my chances as I was made an offer and will most likely accept. Stay true to yourself, your skills, and your values and the right opportunity will come. Have a good weekend 🐠 fam!

After you’ve connected with a consultant on LinkedIn what’s the best practice for asking someone to give you a practice case? To balance respect someone’s time vs coming off as transactional. Should you first ask for coffee chat, then later a case or can you ask for a case in your first “chat”? I am prepping for MBB interviews but I know consultants work crazy hours so I don’t want to take up more time than necessary - what would you prefer? What is the best practice?

Just signed my offer for a Product Manager role and ~100% bump in TC. After four years of being undervalued at Deloitte and two years of making it to final round interviews with no offers, it finally feels like it was all worth it. Hope all of you who are still searching get to experience this someday, and sooner rather than later. It can be done!

Hey ladies, what do you usually bring to an interview? For my current job I don't carry a "posh" leather backpack or anything, just a normal backback. d you think I can bring either that or a folder?

Best book to help prepare for interview? Last time I did an interview was 5 years ago so fee pretty rusty right now

Doesn’t feel great when the job you are interviewing for (that wasn’t advertised at all) is posted on Linkedin a few days after you interviewed 😞 Gotta keep looking...

Looking for input on a career decision. Me: 9 YOE, homegrown manager who is currently doing a stop in industry. I have an offer to return to consulting (M&A). My end game is pure strategy. Do I take the offer or wait for the opportunity to interview for pure strategy? My take is it’s more difficult to lateral the more senior you are in your career.
