Are account people still trained to be a creative ally or has the entire industry pivoted to merely kissing client a**?

I just had to argue against a client suggestion that was literally the wrong word.

AE: “But the client asked for this.”
Me: “But that’s grammatically wrong. Here’s a solution.”
AE: “let’s just do what they ask.”

Like, I’m literally trying to save you, me, and the client from having to fix this down the road. This isn’t being a creative prima donna - it’s not even creative. It’s just how English works. Can’t even get that accomplished.

I thought it may just be my agency (bad rep for producing some pretty “safe” work) but maybe not? Sigh…

the term push back doesn’t exist anymore

Hahahahahahhahahahahhaha.

In my experience, it's 95% the latter.

Pick your battles.

(Maybe you have a chance to "fix" the work for your portfolio, depending on the fuckery ofcos.)

I never knew account people to be trained to be creative allies, though maybe they used to be. I’ve only worked in advertising since 2008 so maybe I missed the boat.

I’ve found that 99 times out of 100 it’s better to just be understanding of these poor people. Managing clients is not easy, and I’m glad I’ve got account people to take that responsibility.

But that one time? I had a really shit account person and I got them moved off the business by simply keeping track of every time they fucked something up or made my job harder and shared it with my boss at our yearly review. Odds are if they’re doing a shit job internally they’re doing even worse with the client.

But you need to pick your battles, I was only taken seriously because I never complain about accounts or any other capability.

Hello, after doing some research I believe I’m being underpaid. About 4 months ago HR did a market analysis for my role. They bumped my salary for about $2k. I’m a mid-level Executive assistant with 6 years of experience and currently supporting 5 executives at a fortune 50 company. One C level and 4 Vice Presidents. I’m currently making $61,000 with bonus included. Based on my research I should at least be making $71,400. I have a check in with my boss tomorrow and I am asking for a raise.
