Haha. I always laugh at the concept of a week dedicated to random acts of kindness. We don't have anything like that but me personally, I don't need a specific week to think about being kind to others, and I also don't think being kind should have the incentive of a spotlight. People should just... do it. All the time. Otherwise what's the point?

As an employee recognition consultant, I was asked to put together a recommendation of a series of activities. When I asked for budget, I was told under $5/pp. 🤯 I shipped posters across the state, got a small budget for execs to give small gifts randomly throughout the week. I look forward to the retrospective 🤨

I didn't even know that was next week. That's a really cute idea, I like it. I might suggest it to someone. Though realistically, we're a little bit too busy to be doing too many initiatives like that, unfortunately.

Something as simple as an email from the CEO or department head and a surprise trip with a snack cart on each floor to offer folks a mid day treat after answering a thoughtful question is the easiest way to accomplish something like Random Acts of Kindness without “over engineering” it on a shoestring budget.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?

Latinx - help! We used this term in our diversity spotlight discussing Hispanic Heritage Month. One individual said that in English a group of Latinos would just be Latins to be gender neutral. I understand the word is controversial but is “Latins” grammatically correct? I assume we should just say Latin Americans, but trying to understand if Latins is also accurate.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach?
