It’s uncommon for an employer to rescind an offer just because you ask for a higher salary. Even if your negotiating position is as weak as you imply, the likely outcome is you asking for a higher amount, and the employer declining, but still keeping the offer open at the originally offered amount.
That’s what the role itself offered plus our discussion , even asked me to bring in two separate resumes and when she asked my desired salary I said exactly what I was asking for and why and she wrote it down
I would say that negotiation for a higher salary is a very regular thing to ask. If it is declined then perhaps asking for a compensation in more vacation time off is also reasonable. I think is it more than reasonable. I did this when I was offered my last 2 positions and I am happy I did. You will never get 100% of things you don’t ask for
What are these "salary negotiations" of which you speak?
Most job offerings now are a "take it or leave it" deal.
Take the first deal that is offered that meets your minimum requirements and plan to keep looking. In a couple of years, we may have an economy where salary negotiations are possible.
Or you may find that you actually like the job you took and do not want to move.
Many companies have a 20% buffer built in. I’d go up 30% and hope you land 10-15% than their initial offer. Also, non-salary negotiations include additional WFM and PTO. My last job wasn’t able to match the salary I wanted but they really liked me so gave me an additional 1 day per week PTO and an additional 3 weeks PTO. Salary isn’t your own negotiating aspect.
If you are unemployed, you probably don't have much leverage. As long as your counter isn't too far above what they offered, you might have a chance.
I attempted to negotiate and was shot down.
