Are there any CA family law firms looking to contract out work (legal research, drafting briefs, disclosures, forms, discovery, etc.)? I have over 6 years of experience and am well-versed in family code and case law. (My attorney is on family leave so we don't have the workload I'm used to right now, and my husband might be switching jobs with a pay cut, so it wouldn't hurt to earn some extra money.)

Someone please tell me if I am crazy. I am at a family law firm with approximately 25 attorneys. I previously worked at small shops where I essentially handled everything myself with no support staff. Now at my current firm I have a paralegal who really only makes my job more difficult… am I crazy to say that I don’t need a paralegal as I am comfortable operating as a solo and pay me slightly. I’m already pretty much operating on my own anyway. Feel like it’s a win win.

I’m a second year associate at a small, but reputable firm. My caseload is almost entirely made up of clients who were referred to one of the partners but the partners are too busy so I end up taking the case. The clients are told up front that an associate, rather than a partner will be taking his/her case. I’ve run into an issue a couple of times where the client doubts my advice because I am only 2 years in. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I address the fact that I’m only 2 years in?

Larger, sophisticated firm with amazing family law practice group making big overtures at me. Having coffee meeting with managing partner-elect, what are some topics I should focus on?

New firm has wide range of practice areas and would be 60-70 attorneys. Really like attorneys in their family group and have arguably “better” clients. Have practiced 10 years at same small office (crim/PI/fam) and feel capped out. Won’t be a partner/owner at current firm until boss retires (3-5yrs).

Can anyone explain the effect of automobile expenses in business income in relation to support?

Is it important to offer support staff that speak a foreign language or is it sufficient if the attorney can communicate with the client? We had one bilingual paralegal and another who is not. The bilingual one left us some time ago.

Thus, we are left with one who can’t communicate with about 25% of our clients. And there just isn’t enough revenue to support two paralegals despite my partner pushing us to hire.

So I was hired exactly 2 months prior to this covid epidemic and as a result it has made learning how to be a lawyer quite a rollercoaster. I’m trying to learn how things are supposed to be but in all actuality, I’m having to be flexible and figure out how things are working at the moment...which is fine, but it’s hard to predict much of anything when you have nothing to compare it to. Being a law student and interning is nothing compared to practicing. Any advice!?

One of the paralegals in my office is leaving and to say I’m heartbroken is an understatement. We get along so well and our dynamic is great! I’m an associate and I don’t blame her for going elsewhere with more money and she will be closer to home but it still sucks! Where does one find good family law paralegals!!🙏🏽
