As an account person, we can pivot to many different agency arenas (strategy, project management, media planning). In this market I have to consider making a move like this. What’s the hardest to come back from, and what looks the best?

I think media planning is the hardest to go into and come back from. But all of these business areas are suffering just as much as us from the layoffs and they are more likely to get a new job in their niche vs someone who would be trying it for the first time. It’s rough out there.

Strategy is best for the long game as an account person. If you get that experience now, you’ll be golden.

Before account sup?

I think media planning is quite technical and not easy to go into within a short period of time. Recruiters will want someone with more experience and robust portfolio to a newbie. Project management looks like the best option.

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...

I have accepted a job offer and expect to start in two weeks. The new role is lateral in title. I requested multiple times for higher title as the job posting open to both AD and D level, but the company refused to offer at D level. I accepted the job anyway for expanding responsibilities.
While I am waiting for my start day, another company reached out and offers me a D role for same responsibility.
What should I do as I don't want to burn bridge, but I do want career progression. any advice?

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?

I would love to start working in a field that I’m passionate about. Any advise is appreciated!

Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
