As January fast approaches, sales will plummet in the company I work for. I've already have my hours halved from 40 to 20 two months ago. I've been with the company for 28 months (UK) and I have a strong gut feeling that I'm going to be made redundant. I believe that I'd only get 2 week's salary as redundancy pay. Why are sizable salary bumps offered for switching firms, even for the same role? What’s the methodical rationale for this practice? Is the initial increase somewhat sustained or quickly normalized?

After working with them for 2 months it’s apparent that there are 0 consulting skills (excel, outlook, PowerPoint) and they freeze up even on internal calls. They are young and coachable, and I offered to put time into that. However at a company event they made no effort to get to know the team and chose to stick to their familiar colleagues in their home office.
