3-5x + more in lifetime earnings is a meaningful difference. They are not the same rank at any of the B4.

EY does not automatically require MD to make Partner, but the trend does seem to be many more MDs and fewer partners. Some of those MDs will eventually make partner (a candidiate I supported flipped to partner last year), but we also had people make it directly without the MD step.
Not even close to “slightly”.
That is false. It depends on MANY factors and length of time. I am a CDA and there are MANY MDs I have had that made more than P's. Why? They were major business development contrbutors building practices and bringing in serious margin. Some were older and could never have been a P.
On average the P's make somewhat more. After 15 years they start to seperate a great deal more. But many don't stick around that long.
You sure it’s only slightly higher lifetime comp? At KPMG, responsibilities are the same (I.e., both run engagements), though there’s more of an expectation for partners to bring in revenue. Partners make a lot more, especially after a few years. MD is also a stop on the way to partner at kpmg which I think is different from the other big4. There are lifetime MDs, but all partners have to be MDs first.
No not the same across all B4. I believe KPMG and PwC use MD as a level before P. Not sure about EY.
EY is moving to that but has f-ed up the MD role in the process. It’s become much less of a PP level and more like an SD+. Totally devalued and not worth the effort - 3rs yr MD perspective.
