Considering that more than ~50% of people attempt to get a consulting job receiving an offer is difficult enough. Obviously MBB are the most prestigious but all the other firms have their strengths.
I wouldn't say so. There are other options that do 'strategy'- for example, we only recruit from the list you're referring to.
I'm very happy w landing at KPMG strategy group, coming out of the top Chicago school. I think it was the best culture fit for me, and it's still pure strategy work, just like MBB.
I had no interest whatsoever in MBB
The term "Pure strategy" irks me a little bit. Everything is part of a strategy or they wouldn't pay you to be there is my opinion.
I agree that everything is part of a strategy. But "pure strategy" is 100% strategy, hence the "pure."
Pure strategy is silly. Speaking as someone who has to do both, planning is invaluable, however it's typically done without actual managerial line of sight and it almost always fails to take into account the organizational realities. Having done pure strategy work too it all fits nicely on a presentation but reality is oh so goddamn messy
