700k star points? You could just live at spg for a couple of years with that, haha
Bora Bora is worth every penny
We just finished honeymooning in Bora Bora with my SPG points. Book the St Regis. So much better than the Le Meridien. Surprisingly your points go further at the St Regis too, and I have the excel models to prove it.
If you use airline miles for the flights to Tahiti, it's not bad at all. Then just buy a separate flight from Tahiti to Bora Bora for a few hundred dollars on Air Tahiti (not to be confused with Air Tahiti Nui).
Just transfer starpoints to an airline so you don't have to spend anything & do Bora Bora
@OP I was planning for years to do my honeymoon there until three of my friends did it. They all said it was truly amazing.
St. Regis Punta Mita is pretty sweet. Did my honeymoon there.
Also, besides the Bora Bora St Regis being a better value for your points than the Le Meridien when comparing points spent vs rack rate of rooms, it is better in a few other ways: 1) the bungalows are bigger and more luxurious -- the smallest one at the SR are 1550 sq ft, 2) the spa is better and you get a free couples massage if you stay 5+ nights, 3) it has a lagoonarium on site with its own marine biologist; in fact people from Le Meridien come over to snorkel there, 4) it has better restaurants, as evident by lots of Le Meridien people coming over to eat at the Jean Georges restaurant.
W Retreat Maldives
@BCG: have you been there? I was looking into that until I noticed the new St Regis. Even the off season (US summer) at the W Retreat is around 90K points/night
@BCG: Nice. I'm between that or the St. Regis.
@Senior: Were you at the Le Meridien or St. Regis in Bora Bora? What made it so amazing?
Bora Bora sounds nice, I think, since it's literally the most remote resort area in the world. But I believe the point redemptions there are just as crazy as they are in The Maldives (if not more). I can't get over the flight prices. I wanted to do first class on Emirates also but ever since the recent devaluation it doesn't seem worth it.
I've spent far too long racking these up and want to make sure I do something good that doesn't cost me much out of pocket.
St Regis Puerto Rico was fun! I went for a family vacation
W Vieques is good for something closer to the states (not sure where you're based)
Also honeymoon at the St. Regis Punta Mita. It was awesome and it was a short flight
Puerto Rico is a lot of fun for sure (went there a couple months ago), but you have to be mindful of Zika. Would def recommend it tho.
@Deloitte2: If you don't mind me asking, after points, how much cash did you spend out of pocket on your honeymoon? Ballpark figure of airline miles used for two to get to Tahiti and back from the states?
.
I was going to say that Rio Leblon Sheraton, but the above recommendations are better!
