I hated my project for reasons both legitimate and petty. I worked fairly hard for awhile, diplomatically rolled off, and got a better project. I'm happier now. Ama!

Well. That was what I said to my SM. To my manager, I barely held in tears while indicating that my mental health was suffering. Both were true.

I said that my skills were no longer aligned with the direction the project was going in and so I wanted to find a project I could make more significant contributions to.

Thanks OP. All these are relevant to me, but I’ve been too shy/scared/worried to bring it up to my SM. Perhaps I should instead of suffering and pushing through. Thanks for sharing. How far in advance did you have these conversations in relation to your rolloff date? I’m currently getting extended on a month to month basis but this will easily be another 12-14 months for sure Contemplating quitting D if needed (currently interviewing) but now I see I might not have to.

I didn't have a planned roll off date, but when I brought it up, they gave me a few weeks or a month to find something else. I was also job searching externally, and having an offer and knowing I could get others gave me the confidence to pursue a project I wanted instead of settling for whatever project wanted to slot my into a role. I also told my coach what was going on and I trusted him to help me, and he did. My project could have kicked me off immediately and I'm grateful that they didn't, and it got so much easier once I knew I had an exit day.

How?

Yeah that won't work in my case.

My former PM actually told me he rolled off my team because I wouldn't reschedule my PTO. I had this PTO scheduled since June. Another person took 3 weeks of PTO and she was retained. Unethical?

I moved into my current place 4 years ago and stored 5-7 boxes full of old books/ items I didn’t think I would need daily in the back of my landlord’s warehouse. I haven’t needed the items for 4 years, but they now raised my rent for the first time and I want to know where my stuff is. They said they have new renters of the warehouse and my stuff is there, but squished into a corner and they need to look for it. They didn’t say when. I said later this month/June is fine. Should I be mad?
