Well. That was what I said to my SM. To my manager, I barely held in tears while indicating that my mental health was suffering. Both were true.
I said that my skills were no longer aligned with the direction the project was going in and so I wanted to find a project I could make more significant contributions to.
Thanks OP. All these are relevant to me, but I’ve been too shy/scared/worried to bring it up to my SM. Perhaps I should instead of suffering and pushing through. Thanks for sharing.
How far in advance did you have these conversations in relation to your rolloff date?
I’m currently getting extended on a month to month basis but this will easily be another 12-14 months for sure Contemplating quitting D if needed (currently interviewing) but now I see I might not have to.
I didn't have a planned roll off date, but when I brought it up, they gave me a few weeks or a month to find something else. I was also job searching externally, and having an offer and knowing I could get others gave me the confidence to pursue a project I wanted instead of settling for whatever project wanted to slot my into a role. I also told my coach what was going on and I trusted him to help me, and he did. My project could have kicked me off immediately and I'm grateful that they didn't, and it got so much easier once I knew I had an exit day.
How?
Yeah that won't work in my case.
