Bit of background: I recently turned 25, have been an auditor now for 4 years (same firm from intern to staff to senior), and have given my firm and my clients 110% of me at all times.
Lately, I’ve been wanting to quit altogether (burning out) and try out a career that has always been more of a “dream”. I can’t be the only one feeling this way so I’m reaching out to my people - is this just a weird quarter-life crisis or is it actually valid & reasonable?

Mix of both? I think we’ve all gone through the same experience. I almost pulled the trigger and quit to pursue a passion last winter, but my GF talked me out of it. Work at case scenario, you come back to audit or go back to school. Good luck

like

Worst case scenario*

Agreed with A1. I only held on for 2 years before leaving audit for industry but then returned to B4 audit. Sometimes, the only way to know for sure is to do it. There's a good chance you'll be able to return to PA if you find out industry isn't for you (or whatever dream job you go for)

Same. I am taking a LOA in the spring to travel and play gigs, essentially a mini tour. Music is my passion. Been at firm for 4 years and always thought about doing something like this to at least see what it feels like to live that lifestyle in case it becomes a permanent thing.

I was thinking the same to just quit but then thought why not try LOA and clear my head.

First of all make sure you have your CPA before you go.

Is it valid? Sure.

Is it reasonable? Depends - do you have a sensible plan? If you audited your own forecast, how does it look?

SM once told me that this industry will take whatever you give it and spit you right out. Never sacrifice your well-being/personal time for a 9-5.

SM probably will be stuck as SM for 5 more years then decide to settle for MD. Not all your superiors are worth listening to for advise on what is best for you and your future. The most successful people in my EY network outside of the few partners I work with all left at the manager level

like

completely normal. I’ve been at EY for over 5 years not counting my internship. Newly promoted to manager and have given EVERYTHING to my teams and clients. Was sold on all of the promises of what making manager would bring and none of it came true (partially from the pandemic, sure. But local partners saying their hands are tied because decision making occurs at the regional or above level is not okay.. ) look at what else is out there. This year has taught me to look past the half-hearted promises that these people will give you. I feel like I’ve given up on so much in my personal life in the past 5 years at this point

Should also note I just quit and will be starting at my “dream” job next week. Haven’t slept so good as I have been in years.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?
