I was told by various agency recruiters that a 3 month stint isn’t an issue post-COVID given the state of our industry. You do you!
Just do it and say it was freelance
Done that! Took a gig that wasn’t what I wanted in any way (less $, interest, or growth potential) bc I needed to be working - then found a great gig I’d have to move for. I worked 2 weeks and gave 2 weeks notice. Not ideal, but honest!
Chief
don’t put it on your resume?
Yeah I agree with this. Just don’t advertise you did that stint. It will come up in an interview but just lie and say it was freelance

Do you have another gig lined up? If so, bolt. If not, find one first.
The sooner the better if you are going to do it.
When I was younger I was chatting with a CEO who I respected a lot. He offhandedly mentioned walking away from a vp job at a huge company a couple of weeks after starting because the team was too broken for him to fix. At the time I was like, “but what about your resume?” But only later realize successful people don’t waste their time. That’s why he was where he was and why I was where I was. Don’t waste your time.
I try to give it 90 days.
I know someone who did 1 day. Pretended it never happened.
I did this, but it was a bit longer than a day… but I should have bolted day 1 when the HR person showing me around asked “so do you think you’ll actually stay?” At the end of the tour… 😂 I should have said no and left, but instead I spent a miserable couple weeks doing the job and trying to make that job work/turn it around for the better.
quit. don’t put it on your resume. don’t talk about it. don’t bring it up in an interview. and don’t use people from that job as referrers. it’s like that job never happened
I once left an extremely toxic job after 11 weeks and just left it off my resume as if it never happened.
I have about 23 years of Graphic Design experience. I have the same issue but maybe one year(ish) long jobs, a few times on my resume. There were varying reasons as to why they didn't last for very long. I have to figure out wether or not I should list them as freelance, contract or just not put them on my resume. But then if I don't put them on my resume, I will have to explain the gaps. It's all a big mess full of psychology in the job world...smh.
To answer your specific question - 1 year min for it not to look bad, especially at a CD level. I realize that’s not always doable if you are miserable.
If you do resign after 3 months, I would either not put it on resume or if you do, don’t lie about it being contract, etc. — just be honest about the situation.
Hiring Managers for CD level roles, more often than not, ask around about candidates without the candidate knowing (backdoor references). It’s likely they will find out it wasn’t contract work, that you resigned shortly after accepting role and you lied about it. That’s worse.
I'm starting a job next week that I have no intention of putting on my resume. As far as I'm concerned, it's a long-term freelance gig.
Errr... probation period? Hello? Should be in your contract. If you're still on it, just leave. And don't put it in your resume because, yes, they might track down indeed and find out you 'lied'.
You can do whatever you need to!! I just quit after seven months and regret not doing it sooner. Don’t worry about your resume.
2 hrs before
Do what’s best for you! You can even leave it off your resume if you want to. I’ve left two jobs as little as 6 months in because it wasn’t what I expected. Better you leave then stay just so that it looks nice on your resume.
If you’re gonna do it, do it and don’t mention where you were at for 3 months
3 years. Only 33 months to go.
