I'm looking to find a job like the Forward Deployed Engineer role Palantir Technologies in the UK.
I have become hooked on finding a job that involves solving the kinds of problems they presented during their interviews. Although I got to the final round my performance anxiety got the better of me (I think I wanted the job a bit too much...). I will reapply after working in a similar company.
Is it "deep tech" / "data science" or "smart enterprise" that they're doing? Any advice welcome.

My personal opinion is that the requests for people to use PTO were intended to put Accenture in a better financial position so that they could minimize layoffs...not to screw over people who were getting laid off.
This is not unique to consulting. It is happening pretty much across every industry. In several states (such as california), companies are required to compensate you (with $) for unused PTO. Basically, your company is trying to save money and layoffs are not the only way.

OP, this is happening at many, many companies right now. As everyone keeps saying, these are unprecedented times we're living through
That’s just one of the many benefits to the company. It doesn’t benefit you at all
Got it. Thanks for the additional info. Someone mentioned the buffering, but my mind called BS. Like you said, no work benefit to me, but I have more time to focus on my search.
German here. Our leadership communicates very directly and clearly with regard to the crisis. All companies here force you to take vacation (non consulting firms also overtime), as it is a liability (planning for people taking off, overtime to be paid) to the company and it gives you more freedom to navigate the second half of the year, once things might pick up again. It might also have to do with governmental support and the prerequisites for that, but that will depend on the country!
We were forced pto too. What makes it worse is that consultants only get 12 days of PTO while managers only get 15 days of pto.
You’re not missing anything.Besides reducing the payouts, firms are keeping their activity rate minus vacation high. This likely plays into management bonus payout next time around. “During covid we were still able to keep rates up, etc”.

They are asking you to take PTO so that your utilization doesn't get affected. It benefits you by being able to keep your job, salary and healthcare benefits longer. Not just you, it's everyone. If you are so keen on losing your job, please quit and cash out your PTO.
This post reeks of ungratefulness, given tons of people are unemployed, of entitlement and a sheer lack understanding on how business works.
Slow down. You don’t know me. I’m grateful every day for having a job and what I’ve been able to accomplish. It amazes me whenever anyone tries to get clarity about anything around here, someone rides in, capes for the company and then tells the “entitled” person who dares to try to understand that they should basically sit down somewhere and never ask questions. You’ll learn eventually that blind loyalty to companies that could not care any less will not serve you.
And why would I quit? So I don’t get any severance or I’m unable to collect unemployment? Despite what you say about my lack of understanding of how business work, you would be wrong. I already understand about utilization. Many in the group have very little, if any for the quarter, so trying to save it is moot. That’s why I didn’t bring that aspect up. Have a good night.
Trying to see a positive in this, but right now, just seems like the benefit is to the company.
I typically choose when to take my PTO because I plan my travel around good deals. Bench time does not dictate it. I’m not usually on the bench long enough to take a decent PTO, so it’s never been a problem. The only reason I went along with the request was because I don’t plan on traveling (on a plane) the rest of the year.
Anyway, I appreciate the insight from everyone. Just makes me regret even more not being an entrepreneur.
The “suggestion” was likely for the financial gain of Accenture. However there were a lot of people talking about balancing work with home schooling, babies at home, mental health from the sudden change so it was also a reminder that you have PTO and you should use it to take care of things outside of work. Pto does not have to equal travel vacations.
