Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

Yes
That’s a so what issue. Does she ring the bell in other ways? When you viewed the transcript, was she 3 or 3+ until the final term? Some people have issues in the end due to work and family matters. My 10 yr old dog was put to sleep before a final. I cried throughout the exam and my grade sucked, pulling down my GPA. My high GPA took a big hit. Obviously, the atty recognizes that he was < 3 at graduation but what about before
Sorry to hear about your dog. I lost my faithful companion of almost 13 years a few months ago. I had a depo scheduled the day after he died and had to reschedule it last minute because I was a wreck. I cannot imagine having to take a law school final. It’s amazing that you even made it through.
Big issue. It’s actually the reverse. She NEVER had a 3.0 GPA. Her grades started very low and she slowly improved. 2.85 was the high water mark. She is refusing to provide a final transcript showing her grades final semester.
Her grades were probably pass/fail during her last semester if she graduated during COVID.
Why are we still requesting transcripts for positions other than clerkships or corporate law? Law school grades mean very little, my colleague is running a very successful estate planning firm and graduated with “around” a 2.85 GPA.
Agree. School is for trial and error - it’s a learning environment and should not be a deal breaker for determining whether an attorney is qualified. I think with employers using transcripts as such a serious measuring tool makes for a bad learning environment. But you are entitled to your own hiring practices!
As a 2021 graduate, my resume is similar. I don’t have grades for 2 semesters because most of the law schools went on a pass/fail grade scale. None of the pass/fail classes counted towards my GPA at all.
This has truly sucked trying to explain while applying for jobs. It doesn’t matter that I passed the bar exam on the first try and had 3 internships during a pandemic….they always have questions about my GPA.
