Not anymore but in a previous life... You usually travel the first or second week of the engagement (if buy side) to meet management and get an overview of the company. The drafting of the actual reports is mostly done remotely. Warning-travel can be very last minute and unexpected though. Expect to have to cancel and rearrange personal life events several times...
Salaries are 10-15% more than audit
Hours are hard to quantify... When you're on a live deal, 60-80 is possible. But you can also be unassigned for 0.
Not Chicago based but the above is accurate - firms staff based on client relationships not on target location, so 9 out of 10 deals will include at least some travel, but typically only a few nights for most projects - 1 day with audit workpapers, 1 day meeting with target management. Like KPMG said, hours are very variable. You’ll have long weeks and dead weeks, it all averages out to working about the same total hours as audit
As in exit opportunities aren’t that great? Can’t be any worse than audit right?
You have very little predictability, but pay is solid. Exit opportunities are something to think about though.
Generally the same as audit with possibilities for some better positions.
