I don’t think short term comp change is a good reason. You will have to rebuild your whole network
You could also think of it as a way to expand your network.
Great move and worth it. I am not from International Tax but closely work with some of the partners there for my outbound clients. I also have team members who are kind of hybrid where they sit with us although they are from international group. Let me know if I could help anyways.
I have a couple friends going there next fall, it pays more than other intl tax groups because of the 80/20 jd/mst split. For NYC you could get 80 entry level.
PwC's starting pay is probably 20% higher than EY in NYC office at least in the ITS practice for folks who are not JD/LLM. For the money, it's a good move for you !
As to the other point you mention, I do think loyalty penalty is a severe issue as there is simply no point for people to stay if they know that the gap between external hires and and internal employees is simply irreconcilable.
I’ve seen several friends transfer internally (various big 4 firms) from low COL to a higher COL city (NYC). The COL adjustment is never enough to match peers in the new city. The pay difference is as much as 10k at the first year staff level in tax. You won’t get that in the COL adjustment.
Where are you moving from/to?
Also idk which firm you work in, but at PwC it's not cost of living related for salary adjustments, it relates to cost of labor. So an internal transfer could help with relo but probs not a huge salary change.
