Not sure if there’s a defined metric for how technical one should be, but it’s very important if you want your clients and team to be confident in you.
It’s quite easy to distinguish between those who have done the walk and those who only talk the talk when engaged.
I think the higher you go the more strategy and thought leadership is expected of you. I keep a treasure trove of tools, strategies, presentations to myself. I call it my tool box. Only a portion of it is my original work. I do remove client names, branding. As you move up it’s kind of expected you can do things lower level positions on the team can do. Learn at least Python, have some depth to your area of expertise. Someone that can code is always more respected on any technical team.
Depends on the implementation, but in general I think basic understanding of whatever technology you are dealing with is important. Take python for example, you should be able to read how the code works and how the libraries function but you don’t always need to be able to write the code yourself.
Communication is the key for any role
