Consulting Managers in cyber implementations. How technical should someone be to succeed in the role?

Not sure if there’s a defined metric for how technical one should be, but it’s very important if you want your clients and team to be confident in you.

It’s quite easy to distinguish between those who have done the walk and those who only talk the talk when engaged.

I think the higher you go the more strategy and thought leadership is expected of you. I keep a treasure trove of tools, strategies, presentations to myself. I call it my tool box. Only a portion of it is my original work. I do remove client names, branding. As you move up it’s kind of expected you can do things lower level positions on the team can do. Learn at least Python, have some depth to your area of expertise. Someone that can code is always more respected on any technical team.

Depends on the implementation, but in general I think basic understanding of whatever technology you are dealing with is important. Take python for example, you should be able to read how the code works and how the libraries function but you don’t always need to be able to write the code yourself.

Communication is the key for any role

Looking for a PwC referral. My current company has been great but we were acquired by a start up PE firm a year ago and I feel like the acquisition is starting to hinder my growth. I have 3 years experience in strategic sourcing and procurement transformation, initially starting as an intern. I want to continue advancing my career but feel stuck. Trying to give this company a chance but see an opportunity at PWC I think I would be a great fit for. Any advice?

New York folks:
Are you aware of the CPA exam credit extension to 2021 for NY CPA candidates impacted by COVID19? It’s on a person-by-person basis and you need to request the extension. Has anyone tried doing this yet? Can anyone shine more light on this? The extension would really help me, but I’m not sure what more to tell them in my email than the fact that I couldn’t sit for the exams this Spring/Summer due to test centers closing in NYC.

Hi All,
I have been working as mainframe developer for around 8 years. From last year, working on requirement analysis and team management activities. I want to move into java full stack developer profile as I am not interested in management work. I know that being 8+ YOE guy and considering my tech background, it would be difficult to transition, but I am really depressed with my work profile. Please advise how should I transition my career path to a java full stack developer.

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).
