Both not quite MBB target schools. Prob I would take Cornell. At least you have the Ivy League factor.
@Bain & Company, May we please connect? I live in LA with my family, and thus, cannot really consider target schools in east coast but would love to learn more about your experiences with UCLA and MBB recruiting. Appreciate you so much
MBB recruits at UCLA Anderson, as do most of the other firms — primarily into the LA and SF offices. I loved Anderson. Lots of great recruiting opportunities, strong brand on the west coast, Asia Pacific, great culture, strong FAANG and start-up presence, etc. Being in a bigger city for bschool also has its advantages
Anderson was great. Most alums want to be in west coast offices, but they’ll usually know people in other offices to connect you with. You might just need to network a bit more actively. For what it’s worth I was offered the option to transfer my offer to any LEK office, but wanted to stay in LA.
Probably UCLA- I imagine it to be a target school for LA. Cornell is surrounded by too many other business schools, so I don’t think it’s a target school
Which office do you want to end up in?
M7 and top 10 bschools typically have access to all offices, further down the rankings it becomes more regional focus where there may be school alumni concentrated.
As others have said, if you want MBB NYC at a school that's not top 10, best bet is the one in region. So Cornell plus you'll have the broader Cornell alumni network in the region to tap into as well.
Both are target Big 4 schools but MBB don’t spend a lot of time there. Look at their jobs reports, most schools publish which companies their students went to. See if your target companies recruit at either
Cornell graduate here. There was a rumor going around that McKinsey stopped recruiting at Cornell, so you would need to get into M through your own credentials and network. I don’t know too many BCG and Bain peeps from Cornell but better shot than McK. Cornell will help with getting you places at a NYC offices though.
I haven’t seen them at career fairs. But I’ve seen Cornell graduates (few) enter MBB directly. This is from undergrad though.
i don’t think they do OCR at either. but i don’t think either one would make them rule you out if you applied through other means.
This is not accurate.
In general I think firms/offices recruit at a school or they don’t. Beyond that I don’t think name matters. But agree with others that UCLA is probably good for west coast offices. Not sure if Cornell is a target for NYC or others.
