Corporate America loves to talk about innovation, agility, and efficiency, but we still reward being busy over being effective, filling calendars instead of solving problems, and confusing visibility with impact, and then we wonder why people feel burned out and disengaged, so when did productivity stop meaning results and start meaning how booked your Outlook calendar looks?

The corporate world is best at talking a good game and always patting itself on the back. It's striking how much of the happy talk put out by upper management and company flacks has almost no relation to what actually happens in the day to day workings of a company. In the name of profitability people are being squeezed and leadership just babbles away with all their cliches about innovation and agility.

Yup

It’s easier to weigh productivity with what is directly in front of them. Meetings on the calendar = things getting done, apparently. Why nobody realizes it actually hurts efficiency is beyond me.

Some teams are (and all should be) judged on results and not activity.

In my organization, most with my role are commission based. I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I am finding that in most cases where I compare the voluntary benefits industry, I might be underpaid. What is an appropriate base salary for a position in which commission is replaced?

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?
