I just think bigger EOY bonuses need to happen. OR signing bonuses. Maybe even both.
Feels like I’m working just as much as my finance friends and they get hefty non-taxable EOY bonuses.
Great idea. Seems like some sort of Industry conversation needs to take place, otherwise it’s just a thought on a chat board. Do we all agree to a walk out?

This is why I hate working on pitches. It’s almost always guaranteed long hours and weekend work with no extra compensation if we win and I’m typically not even given extra PTO to make up for the extra weekend work.
Then, on top of it all, there is almost zero chance the stuff will get made so you don’t even get book work out of it.

Look I think creative development is important but why shouldn’t a good account person get a cut too? Or strategy? Or media? Slippery slope
We should all be paid more to begin with as well.
Some thoughts to consider… Typically commissioned positions like sales make less base salary and rely on commission, so that could backfire vs just asking for a fair salary against your contributions. Also account people/new biz will push through anything they can with client; creatives are our best hope for the integrity of the work. Do we really want to incentivize pushing through whatever client will buy over what might be most successful in market and/or generate buzz for the agency? And what about the jr on the team who is going to feel that you’re profiting off of their contributions? How about just being paid fairly? We also now have all these levels (sr this, associate that) so that anyone who is contributing positively can progress rapidly and earn real increases every few years. If anything I’d be in favor of more profit sharing so that it is less competitive and the goal is to help all boats rise.

I think you have a point. If you spend a year working like hell and not selling anything your salary would dramatically drop. It’s hard because what the agency charges for social posts would already secure my base salary, although I don’t always sell campaigns I’m sure doing a bunch of those across the year.
I think the point is just the distribution and this is not endemic to advertising distribution of wealth is quite unfair in every industry anywhere in the world. The ones that produce/manufacture and create are not the ones that keep the profits.
That’s why we should seize the means 🙃
Yes too bad we don’t have a union
Agencies do NOT make huge margins.
And most don’t mark up production either.
You are dreaming.

Ah right because the agencies owners are not cashing millions a year.
This but also for pitch wins too!!

It’s even more infuriating when we illustrate or shoot stuff in house, they sell the right to that and we see ships

Let's see you suggest that to your CEO or Chairman.
