Take BCG lol. Brand name means everything these days. Heck I’d be a janitor at BCG.
I'm sure if you put your mind to it you could be a janitor at BCG, MBB, Goldman, or whatever company you can dream of.
What you do is just as important as working for a name brand.
^^ in that case you must be a janitor at IBM
If your goal is client facing it’s hard to tell that story. I’d stick with IBM (which by the way is a great brand too, FB sort of distorts our thinking hah)
You lose your touch when you aren’t client facing
Obviously the name brand of BCG is great but it will be a supportive role instead of a client facing role. The pay is the exact same. “BCG - Operational innovation team"
Depend on if you like client facing/wanna do it long term. If not, you should switch. It’s always good to have name brand on your resume if you wanna switch again the the future
Don’t focus on client facing vs non client facing. What are the skills you are building up on, at BCG? Are they transferable to a consulting or non consulting role in the future? There are plenty folks that move from Industry to consulting at senior levels. And their expertise is not because they are ‘client facing’ but their domain knowledge and skillset. If you can elaborate more on the role, I can give further inputs.
The other thing to consider is what you want to do in the long term and whether this role is going to help with that.
If you are going to be non-client facing at BCG, I think you're much better off just exiting to industry
OP, how did you get the over BTW? Did you apply for a different position and they were like, we think you are good for this role, or did you actually apply for this?
@ibm3, a recruiter reached out to me via linked in and I just followed through! Wasn’t really actively looking but thought it was a good opportunity
Sounds like a big step down to me.
Non client facing roles aren’t as interesting and don’t have as much say if you want to switch back to client facing
Salary, benefits, live style, and cost of living plus job, portion path and strategic skill acquisition should all play into your decision.
With a clear strategic goal and a good story, any job can be good
