Currently employed at an IB (>10 years service in various roles…….5+ years in current role) as part of the Operational Tax Team covering taxes such as Withholding Taxes, Relief at source, SDRT, FTT’s etc. My question is - if I want to increase my job opportunities what would be the best external course/qualification to undertake? I enjoy the Tax part of my job but conscious I don’t want to pigeonhole myself to being one dimensional!

Do you think getting SQL/Python experience is worth the extra time for financial analyst roles coming from Big 4 tax consulting? I would love to hear any advice for shifting towards the financial modeling path from accounting. Thanks!

Feel like I’ve come to a point in my consulting career where I’ve reached the end of what this job can provide me, career-wise and as an opportunity for personal/professional development. I’m planning to apply to a masters program, which would kick off next fall, but need to stay where I am between now and then to be able to pay for school. Bit of a niche topic: I’ve been in TS/SCI processing for a Science/Tech/Weapons analyst position with the CIA for 3 yrs since I finished grad school in chemistry, but CIA positions are sort of set it and forget it since they can take so long. I currently do securities ops/accounting but want to move into a more client facing role. One of our marketing/client service associates got a promotion, so I’m guessing she’ll be doing higher level work, which may leave a gap for some of the work she used to do. How would I go about asking if I can work on that team in some capacity but still do my current role? I’ve only been there 1 yr and I know my current manager also has some higher level items in securities ops he wants me to do as well.

Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
