Who's got the most fishbowl points?
Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

Go to the interview and ask as many questions as possible. If you’ve been hoping for more satisfying work and to feel more appreciated- this could very well be your opportunity. Don’t write off the blessing you may have been asking for. Maybe they’re just a smaller company, but they could have an amazing work environment. Research them on LinkedIn and FB, see if you can find other employers who work there and send them a message for insight.
I wouldn’t take a chance on something sketchy in this economic climate. A major recession is imminent and layoffs are happening left & right. Once you find a good opp tho, I made the switch to ad tech and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Comp exploded, WLB improved dramatically, I’m valued as a contributor, and it feels really good to be working on an ever-evolving product so I don’t feel the stagnation/slowdown many people feel when they go brand side.
Also, seconding the thought to find and message people in similar positions. It’s the best research you can do.
Sure, I was in account services at several big name shops. After getting to all my dream agencies and winning things I was faced with the realization that there was no end of the rainbow - all of those places thought they were unique, traded the same workers, paid like shit, and general had the same shortcomings. I was utterly disillusioned. The one exception was Martin, but that might’ve been due to an excellent manager & team, and who knows if the place has changed since covid.
I wanted to find something that paid well, valued my contributions, was less doting, and still moved relatively quickly while interesting me. Fortunately, the specific area of adtech where I landed satisfied all of those things.
