Weird, it’s almost like the brand has a sense of humor or something.
Errr I think you’ve missed the entire point of this.
The worst thing about it is the “trying too hard to be quirky” bit. With BK and Wendy’s doing Funny QSR so well, this just feels like forced me-too-ism.
I felt that too. A bit too Tim and Eric
Says the AE with (undoubtedly) multiple industry awards for creativity...
Yeah! How dare they have an opinion. Get’em!
I dunno. Look at any successful brand film and the YouTube comments are filled with people who dislike it and don’t “get it.” Many people saw IHOB as a fiasco but it sold a bunch of burgers and got multiple billions of impressions. I think you’ve got to worry less about flops unless it’s something genuinely offensive. This is in no way a serious fail. Critiquing agencies for taking chances that won’t damage the brand because everyone may not get it feels like a self-defeating race to the bottom, watered-down creative and ultimately, in-house work. We should play to the top of our audiences intelligence, no?
The media buy got the I HOB sales, not the idea within it…
@BD1 - about as many as “Idea Incubator” or any other similar term. The issue is that both accurately describe the supposed mission of the group. And let’s be honest, it’s a lot less sinister than “The Creative Coven” or “Idea Illuminati”. Though I do think that “Kentucky Fried Creations - A Yum! Brands Innovation Acceleration Incubator” has a nice ring to it...
How many decks has “Innovation lab” been in??
This isn’t about getting these things made. (Although I’ll be they’ll make one of two.) It’s about using the medium in a fun new way. They want you to watch the videos (psst – they’re commercials) not donate to fund their inventions.
I liked this a lot, and I get it, but a look through their posts on Twitter and people do *not* get it. They're simultaneously being crusifed for asking for money from people, and mocked for not succeeding at all. Every campaign has next to zero donations. Even if they planned on that, it still looks like a flop to idiots. It's a miss.
Guys most in the country are idiots. I'm not, but I'm tired and rushed and think like an idiot half the time. I don't mean it with disrespect in this context, it's just objective reality. If you're selling to the general population, create with idiots in mind. That's why the best work is simple.
I agree. It just isnt very well done, or very good. I'm not sure better production or execution would've saved it.
Already got the set of sweats and puffy stickers. But, I’m a KFC limited drop Stan.
