I am ex-Accenture. My wife is currently at Accenture. It’s a great firm. However, pay trajectory will be faster at Kearney. Also you will deal with more interesting projects and C-Suite clients at Kearney. Both are great choices but having worked at both places, I would choose Kearney without hesitation.
Is there a third option. Its like you are asking should I have chicken or pork, but in reality you want a nice steak
You should go where you liked the people best, and where you felt the best fit.
For context, I am a senior partner at Kearney and feel we are the obvious choice. Our consultants get a variety of experiences, but we run a market system...if you are good you get more choices than if you are less good...and some of those choices may be less to your liking.
I’ve also worked at Accenture in what they call “Strategy” (it’s not). And I get a lot of resumes from ACN strategy partners that are tired of the pressure to cross sell.
But I have a ton of respect for ACN the company, as I bought the stock at $24 and $40 and am up almost 10x. And my best friend works there.
But own your choice. Your attitude will matter, a lot, as to your ultimate enjoyment.
Yes. Though extremely carefully given Covid risks putting planning assumptions to the test.
Go with whichever is a better cultural fit for you. Consulting is hard.
Happy with my choice—but others may prefer ACN’s style.
Agree with k5. “Prestige” is irrelevant if you don’t like the people you work with, because that will largely dictate how long you stay at the firm.
When time is bad , Accenture would lay you off and ceo would use media to call you bottom 5%.
When time is bad, kearney will lay you off and the media would say who is kearney?
Rising Star
Got intern offers with both. I’d go Accenture for project diversity and WLB. Kearney for pay and exit opps. Learning and mentorship are situational.
OP - I was in your shoes 3 years ago and went with Kearney. My experience has not been super rosy but definitely happy with my overall career progression. Feel free to DM if you want to connect and talk through both offers.
What do you want to fo long run. Kearney has better exit opportunities to other consulting firms, and accenture is more well know so a little better in industry
K5 has excellent point, honestly. You should choose the culture and environment that allows you to thrive.
Working at T2, I actually know quite a few ex-S&, Monitor, RB at Accenture Strategy. I had a conversation with an ACN Strate guy and I was literally amazed/shocked by his amazing abilities, seriously.
ATK guys...the vibes bit off so I don't know and maybe just the people I met were snobbish.
Does ACN strategy still exist or is it now absorbed, again
Chief
Still exists as a disparate group.
Was from Accenture strategy, experience was OK not great.
Both are great firms but very different.
