Take SM.. going from M to SM in Deloitte is much more painful. Find a good network and you’ll do well
Take SM - promo from M is not guaranteed. The YOE at SM level are a way wider span (6+ years) so coming in at a SM1 will be no different than yoe for a M4 (unless M5 is a new thing?). Normally I’d advocate coming in lower and wowing everyone but with so many deferred promos due to economy you could be looking at 2 performance cycles before you get promoted.
SM is the most senior spot at Deloitte next step is MD/ Partner/ Principal. Partner and principal requires buy in and you could be in SM for years before the current for next level
Don’t take SM. As you said you are going to set yourself up for failure. SM at Deloitte is very demanding role where you need to manage both directions. Unless you have good connections and can generate client business don’t go for SM
what is the TC for the SM you were offered ?
