Junior associate with deal closing tomorrow. Partner said that I need to cover for part of the day (despite the fact that I said I’m taking off for Yom Kippur) cause said partner is golfing. Also had to cancel a vacation for said partner a month ago. Sign to leave?

These things are great but with the recent wave layoffs and uncertainties about what retirement is going to look like moving forward what is something that you’re doing with that tech paycheck now that may not have an immediate benefit but is focused on planning for the future?

I am having 6 and half YOE. Techstack is front end development mostly on Angular. Currently working at a product based organization. I joined this org 8 months ago. This job has really stressed me out and I am on the verge of a burn out. I am considering quitting and taking a break for two months. Is it a bad idea to quit without having another job, especially given the market conditions now ? I really want to a month or two to take some time off and refresh. Pl advise.

Might be a long shot, but wanted to see if this bowl could share any wisdom/insight. A friend has been offered a role as an independent contractor commercial counsel for a pre IPO tech company in NYC (roughly 10-20 hrs/wk) with the possibility of becoming a full time offer. He has roughly 3 yoe and was at a V10 firm doing tech transactions work but took time off for health. Would appreciate any insights into what a reasonable hourly wage would be to offer up in negotiations. Thanks in advance!

I just got a FaceTime from my 5-year old balling her eyes out saying how she misses me and wants to come home. She and her sister left to go on vacation with her moms family yesterday. I started crying and am just hurting so much right now.

I received an offer I can’t turn down. My company had a few others leave recently, and my close counterpart is on vacation until October, so the GC and rest of the company will likely be in disarray after I leave.

Any advice on how to put in my 2 weeks? I’d prefer to leave on a good note and not a sour one…

What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄). I'm making decorated sugar cookies but kind of drawing a blank when it comes to savory dishes. Bonus points if you have any adult holiday themed games or fun drinks to suggest! It's off school property and there will be a bar (thank god), for context.

I had resigned from a job a few weeks ago. I’m entitled to 2 weeks (10 days) of vacation pay. I used 1.5 since January 1st. Will I be paid out the vacation pay that I earned from Jan-June, or the full 8.5 days that I would’ve had left?

A few months ago I asked the question about using travel smart routers to host a VPN to disguise your location. The purpose of this is to have a working vacation in a foreign country, without telling work about it. My work computer has restricted access so I cannot install a VPN service on the computer without help from IT. My work around is a smart router that can directly host a VPN. Kinda unique situation. I received an offer to return to the company I was with before b school (small professional services firm, not well known) after over a year in consulting post-MBA. The offer is for head of strategy and ops, same salary as my current salary (~200k), plus options and 25% bonus. Currently a manager for an OP clinic. Gave my notice after receiving an offer back in patient care for more money and a better schedule. Spoke to my RVP today who had nothing but positive feedback. He asked for feedback on how to prep the next non-clinical manager as others in the region have been fired or underperformed. Should I be insulted he did not offer me a raise? Wondering if I should use this an opportunity to negotiate or run as I have been feeling undervalued?

How has COVID affected your workload, if at all? My group has a lot more work to do, and less resources with which to do it. But I don't worry about layoffs, so overall I'm happy to be where I am.

Uhhh...I've worked a bunch of places and this has never been an issue. Lack of foresight or genuine not giving a shit about employees? (Not talking Sukkot here, but Major High Holyday that even the most non-observant acknowledge because Day of Atonement, you know?) Anyone else?
