Ask for it. No one gives bonuses unnecessarily, and that necessity is based on your employment contract. Just tell your line manager that you want to add a bonus clause to your contract.
If they say no, press for an explanation. If they go anywhere near “we don’t do that” or “it’s never been done before” just reassure them that you are happy to be the first and figure it out with them.
If you are given a hard no and it’s important to you, it’s probably a sign that you should start looking.
NOTE: if you joined within a year, you better have a really good reason why you didn’t negotiate for it when you took the offer.
I think I said to use that line if the reason for being turned down was that it’s never been done before. A good leader will always be interested and curious about how to motivate and improve the working relationship of their people. If the CD isn’t willing to go to bat for their team, why would that be a person you should work for?
Better off client side if you want bonus. Works same way as profit related pay. If biz hits its numbers you get a bonus, which can be a % of base salary. Only problem is this isn’t guaranteed so if the biz has a bad year, so will your bonus be

At my previous agency we would get quarterly bonus based on performance reviews. Figures weren’t wild, up to an additional month salary over the year but it all helped.
in the Philippines, its mandatory for all companies to give 13th month bonuses. Sometimes it goes to14th if your company gets a big client.

a mandatory 13th month bonus just sounds like your salary is divided in a way that gives you less flexibility on what you do with money you earn
At a holding, I’ve just become bonus eligible at SVP level. Used to work at an independent with a profit related bonus but it was pretty measly if you were senior since everyone got the same.
Literally no one knows. No KPIs.
As a Jr. you really won’t see bonuses like your friends are talking about until way later in your career.

We're independent but have annual "we reached our revenue goal together, everyone gets paid more!" bonus each year as well as one-off spot bonuses at the discretion of managers. I didn't realize this wasn't normal?

I’ve seen $0-$200 as a holiday bonus at Omnicom agencies. Assuming there are actual bonuses at SVP or higher, in creative and new business.
