Watching US salaries increase AGAIN and wondering why Canadian firms don’t have the same pressure to follow these raises. Is it the relatively small number of big firms? Is it that all the big firm managers work together to keep the market in line? Is it the lack of reporting in the Canadian legal press? I feel like we are all getting screwed.

You ARE getting screwed. It IS better here. Canadian firms are colluding and selling you lies about the US experience.

Signed, ex Canadian big law.

Agree with Cooley. Former Canadian in NY. Full bonus for 1900 hrs last year and work is significantly more interesting

I worked as many hours in Canada as I do here, target or not…

I’m not defensive. Somebody billing 1700 shouldn’t come to the US unless they go to a lifestyle firm (which exist). But the many, many people (at least at the “seven sisters” (ugh)) billing 1900+ plus pro Bono plus committees etc. are absolutely getting ripped off.

I’m moving home to Canada from US big law if it helps? But I don’t want to work at a Canadian firm lol doesn’t seem worth it

I mean salaries here are way below the US, but we don’t have 2000 hour targets.

Most US firms don’t either, but also it takes fewer hours worked to bill in the US than in Canada (from my own personal experience)

People RSVP yes, confirm their details and drop out with only a few weeks to go! We are a destination wedding, and I can’t believe how many people - last minute- are not coming after telling us their flights / accom were booked, coming to Bach party etc! Trying to focus more on the people who ARE coming, but it’s quite upsetting to see people drop out after you’ve confirmed final numbers / food orders etc. How did you handle this?

Interview skills for Product Design interviews is very different from skills and mindset required to work in Product Design.

My personal experience in interviewing made me understand that I lacked a lot of things to excel in Interviews although I consider myself good in my work.

If I had to do it again, I will keep interviewing and keep improving portfolio and case studies. Although I will choose companies where I do not want to go first to practice.

What are the bonus thresholds and percentages at your firm?

How difficult would it be for a well-credentialed US lawyer (approx 7 YOE) to qualify and practice in Toronto? I’m a Canadian (from AB) who went to law school in the US (top 3 school), practiced for 4 years at a strong Wall St firm, and now has been in-house as a corporate generalist for a couple years. I want to move back to Canada permanently, and have just kicked off the NCA process, but will I have any realistic prospects of having a successful legal career, or am I too far along?

Anyone want to lateral to a U.S. firm? My firm is hiring across all offices and has a bunch of openings in corporate/lit, with a focus on tech. DM me if you're interested.

Quitting my job soon and am thinking about becoming a therapist/counsellor for lawyers and other high stress professions.
