Trying to rid myself of ID work and get into commercial lit at big shop. I’m just about a year in, and so I was wondering if it makes sense to go to a smaller/midsized shop first then see where I’m at in 3-5 years if big law is still a goal.

Probably easier to have that step in between.

Tbh, just apply to any open big law position. They need warm bodies rn. Big law has lost junior and mid associates to boutiques over the past 2 years.

What’s the day-to-day like for a BTS tax consultant at Deloitte? I received a verbal offer for a tax consultant position but after one of my rounds, I became weary in regard to whether this position was right for me. One of my interviewers made the work seem mostly automated and said that 99% of my job would be reviewing and not preparing; while another interviewer made the work seem like it would be similar to what I’m doing now. Can someone tell me what tax staffs do day-to-day/in busy season?

Any 2022 reopenings yet??

Tonight my wife threw water at me, called me a loser (second time this week but who’s counting) and told me she didn’t wanna be with me. All because while she was out I walked on the treadmill and “omitted” telling her that when she came home. Wasn’t trying to hide it, just didn’t think being on a treadmill for 5 min was worthy of being brought up in convo.

Am I the asshole here? I don’t think I did anything wrong and refuse to start giving my wife status updates while she’s out.

Anybody have recommendations for entry level Social Media Coordinator roles at medium sized marketing agencies? Im career switching from sales to marketing.

My buddy told me the smaller agencies can’t keep employees because they aren’t offering competitive salaries so I’m looking at slightly larger size. I want hands on coaching and teaching as well.

I need PCP and dentist recommendations around NOVA and DC pls. No point to insurance when quality of care has gone down so much these days...

My EOY review is coming up. Here I plan to lobby for a promotion/raise (been at company for 1.5 yrs). Some backstory: During my hiring process I was told by my now boss and VP they were also going to hire a senior engineer to help me along. They never hired such senior engineer because I have over performed and do more than they thought I could (have been told this in 2 performance reviews). Thus, is it fair to ask for a raise and promotion to Senior engineer?

What would be the in hand salary?

I’m a junior litigation lawyer based in Windsor looking to lateral to corporate big law. I have been doing commercial litigation, tax litigation, and tax planning. I’ve done corporate reorganization, corporate structuring, rollovers so corporate would not be completely new to me. I did a solicitor rotation during articling and was involved with several m&a deals. Has anyone managed to make the jump from litigation in Windsor to Toronto big law corporate? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

What has your firm’s turnover like? Are people dropping like flies or holdout out for February bonuses? We seem to have someone resigning every week.
