No, egos do not get better. I've known people to develop enormous egos over time. But I can't recall anyone who had a huge ego ever managing to dissolve it. They may get brought down a peg now and then, but that's different. If you're dealing with higher ups with huge egos, all you can do is work around it. Don't expect it to get better.
They don't want real conversation because they don't want a real connection with anyone that they may have to fire one day.
Not in my experience. People with egos are very rarely aware that they have egos. They genuinely believe everyone around them is the problem, and not much can be fixed without awareness of the issue. All you can do is remind yourself that their personality shortcomings have nothing to do with you, and focus on your work the best you can.
That’s very true. Even if it feels personal it never usually is, they’re like that with everyone.
The only way for an ego to get "better" is for someone to be enormously humbled. Like they have to hit rock bottom and lose all power, and then maybe they will resurface with a more tame ego lol. Especially in this industry, people in power don't change unless they're completely forced and pressured to.
I think even in situations of being humbled, a lot of the time they just seeth and try to ignore it happened.
Yeah, ego’s definitely a thing. Some people grow out of it, others don’t. I’ve learned to stay professional and just focus on working with the ones who treat people with respect.
That’s true, I think there’s just some difficult people in this industry but at the same time, there’s some real lovely people too. It’s a real difficult balance.
Yup, I think we have this in every department! Sometimes you can have a great conversation with your heads of department, sometimes even going to the pub with them after work! But in certain cases you need to step back and ‘know your place’, sticking with a certain etiquette is always best to start with and if they interact in a more friendly way and then just go with it!
Yeah sometimes the interactions can be complete whiplash! Having a good interaction with someone then having them turn around and be dicks is really jarring.
